My Trip Around the World
I have a few things my Mother gave to me . This was before she became ravaged by Dementia and confused by her her illnesses.
She made many quilts and had tons of quilting things , most of which were dispersed by her,in her confusion , and I was not allowed access to.
One of the things she gave me was a small cardboard box , that she had ordered. It contained precut quilt squares for a double bed size Trip Around
the World quilt.
The box was posted to her from , R. Stephens , 6814 N. Mendota, Chicago, IL 60646. It has a Postal Insured Sticker, and $40 in the upper right corner .
The postmark is still there, very faded, but Reads May-1'04.
Inside the box is a yellowed instruction paper , with very simplistic directions for the quilt, along with another small piece of yellowed paper which
reads
"Trip Around The World"
This quilt has 1,005 3" pieces. For double bed. 21 different prints and solids. We start out with 5 pieces in the middle then 12, 16, 20, etc. PRICE:
$40.00"
There are also several plastic baggies , the thin old type of "Baggies" that came in a roll and you fasten with twist ties. Only these baggies all contain
the precut fabric quilt squares , with a very small handwritten strip of paper . The strips read like " Row-1-5 Pieces" all the way through" R 22-92
Pieces".
Guess I should have taken the photo before I opened the baggies , but I am sure you get the idea.
I have had this box for the last couple of years or so. It was stashed back in our mechanical room , with several other "projects". I ran across it
yesterday, while looking for a crochet hook and some yarn I had bought for another project . I have been in an organizing mood , hope it lasts.
I thought "what's in this box?" got it out , opened it and was amazed . So , started sewing on it . It needs to be finished.
I actually took these 2 days off , because, I had an appointment to have my Mom's will probated . However on my way to the appointment yesterday , the
Lawyer
called and said our court appearance was canceled , the judge had called in sick . So delays for another day .
I am sure this will not go fast , but the first two rows are done , which happen to be the center , corner to corner , of the quilt.
This is a small pic , just so you get the idea.
I have made a few quilts , though it is not my first hobby . Today , my second of two days off before the weekend , I wanted to attend
Ogallala Quilt Festival 2014 , in Dimmitt, TX , with a co-worker. She could not be off today , so we will go in the morning.
More later ,
Janice
